i love movies. and i love writing about religion. so when it's a movie about religion? yay! can't wait for Religulous! it looks funny and religion IS funny. people shouldn't think that they can do silly things and expect people NOT to make fun of them. anyway, enough religious bashing. it makes people feel awkward (but that's the point?) and tense. i just wish people questioned their existence a whole lot more and stop getting brainwashed by religion. an ideology that makes you into a servile passive slave is no different from nazism or capitalism/consumerism or communism.

anyhow, here's the trailer. i think the movie may not be screened here. thank GOD* for BIT TORRENT and AMAZON!

*GOD is of course in reference to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, his Noodly Appendage. Ramen!

Watchmen (Directed by Zack Synder, originally written by Alan Moore) - Mar 2009 - Watchmen remains the only graphic novel to win the Hugo Award.

Twilight (originally written by Stephenie Meyer) - Dec 2008

Terminator Salvation - May 2009 - Christian Bale plays John Connor!!! Now, I'm damn psyched up!

why so serious, son?

hellboy 2: the golden army (7/10) - guillermo del toro is quite overrated i feel. pan's labyrinth, though visually stunning, lacked in narrative complexity. hellboy 2 is the same. in fact, it reminded both amos and i of star wars. lots of strange creatures, with strange sets and impressive cgi. but predictable and crappy action hero story. the exploration on the environment theme was superficial and shallow. or maybe was that his intention? that really, nobody can be bothered. haha. anyway, just watch it for the fun of it. don't expect to get mind-fucked.

the number 23 (7/10) - i got this movie lying about in my computer for the longest time. so we finally decided to watch it. it's so-so to me cause i accidentally read the ***spoilers*** when the movie first came out. irritating!!! i hate ***spoilers*** yes so it's about a guy who's obsessed with the number 23. jim carrey is really quite awesome in it. he suits really dark and manic characters. anyway, it was all fun with twists and weird stuff till the end. the end was a bit preachy and christiany, sort of like, everyone gets redeemed sort of shit. yeah. they even quoted the bible. bleargh. so minus points. anyway, don't bother buying the dvd. it's a missable show.

the dark knight (9/10) - what a mind fuck!!! firstly, it's christopher nolan, so there's super high expectations but he never fails... i just love the nolan brothers. the dark knight just keeps surprising you with philosophical explorations of unchecked power (being above the law), man's inherent evil nature, money, madness and a whole lot more... the plot twists and turns. suddenly, two thirds through, another "villain" appears and you go hmmm, this late? but it works! my only gripe with it (hence 9/10 and not a perfect score) is that the story is so complex with many pow wow cool action sequences that we don't see much of the characters. i would love to see more of christian bale (w/o the suit). he's just so damn yummy.

the bank job (8/10) - we downloaded this cause we figured that we will NEVER be able to understand what the fuck was being said if we watched it in the cinemas - it's in thickly accented british!!! hence we need the downloaded version with SUBS!!! note to cinema and film distributors, put english subs in for any english movies that don't sound like english! anyway, it was a pretty cool movie. based on a true bank robbery. lots of twists and turns and it's really quite amazing how it all turns out. i can't really say much about it without giving away ***spoilers*** so yep.

the orphanage (9/10) - on par with "the others" which is also made by another south american director (hmm do i call them latin american? spanish-speaking directors?). anyway, i missed the orphanage last year cause it had one of those short runs, that foreign and art films suffer from. thus, had to download. but it's so good, that i'm going to buy the dvd. haha! anyway, downloading should be made legal. the movie industry sucks big time!!! anyway, back to the movie, it's got great acting and is all creepy. you never really know what's happening till the end and voila, it hits you like a big giant rock. you could never guess it and that makes such movies so fun and cool. i'm a sucker for great storytelling and twists.

red cliff pt 1 (6/10) - hmmss. too long and draggy. quite a yawn feast. lots of cliche scenes. some of the battle scenes were quite nice but highly exaggerated and rehearsed. amos got excited cause he played the r3k (romance of the three kingdoms) game before and whenever a character that he recognised appeared, he went on to list all their stats eg. zhu ge-liang, intelligence 100, battle 60+ etc. hmmss. anyway, it's part 1 of 2 and the final battle scene is yet to come. i'm not overly excited but they caught me... now that i've watched part 1, i just have to watch part 2. bleargh.

rec (8/10) - rec is another awesome spanish film. kind of a cult film made in the blairwitch and cloverfield style. not as shaky so i didn't suffer from that bad a headache. the americans are remaking and renaming it "quarantine", it will be out in oct this year. i'm tempted to say that it's just another zombie movie, but really it's not. it's predictable but done in a very effective style that still makes you jump and want to bite your tail. nice thing is that everything is revealed in bits and pieces so you never really know what's going on. cool scares. the cool thing, they're making rec 2. wheeeee!!! can't wait.

:::Perth::: [17-19 May 2008]
@ 12:27 AM
Went to Perth on a worktrip and had the opportunity to explore a bit of Perth...

Nice doggie at the Fremantle Arts Centre, Perth.

The Western Australian Museum exhibited a wide range of historical artefacts and biological specimens. Also visited the WA Art Gallery which showcased modern Australian paintings, sculptures, installations, multi-media etc. Lastly, I visited PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts), which showed the latest in art, the avant-garde, post-modern stuff. Funny thing with post-modernism is that it's already overdone and we haven't quite figured out what the next step is.

Had some time to do a 1/2 day tour. Visited a vineyard, drank some wine, ate some cheese. Also visited the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. Yummies.

At Caversham Wildlife Park, one of the few independent, self-sufficient wildlife parks in the world ie. doesn't depend on the government for funding. It's very clean and well-taken care of. Here's a lazy kangaroo nibbling from my hand.

More lazy kangaroos! All they do all day is laze in the sun and wait for people to feed them. Hmmss. Me want!

Obscene kangaroo...

Poor lost baby joey... hopping around trying to find its mummy. It makes this little coughing sound to try to locate it's mum.

Lost joey still looking for it's mummy. *sniff sniff* are you my mummy?

Ooh my favourite animal in the zoo. Wombats! I never realised how cuddly, fat and huggable they were. Here's a wombat happily sitting on someone's comfy lap and getting tons of pats on its tummy. Wah... what a spoilt little thing.

Koalas. Yawn... I know... they're cute and cuddly but aren't we a little sick of them. And look at them. They're so lazy. They sleep like 20-22 hours a day or something like that. Bleargh. Amos said that Australians really love their animals coz if you leave it up to evolution, they'd be all gone!!! None of them can probably adapt and survive in this harsh harsh world. Haha.
